Umanitek brings on advisory board to fight AI harm

Zug, Switzerland (April 30, 2025) – Umanitek AG, a Swiss-based AI company combating harmful content and the risks of artificial intelligence, has formed a world class advisory board, compiled of strategic advisors from Silicon Valley to Zurich and Singapore – Aza Raskin, Bill Tai, Joe Betts-LaCroix and Magnus Grimeland.

The advisory board members bring broad AI experience and thought leadership to umanitek’s mission to fight harmful content and the risks of artificial intelligence by developing and deploying technology that serves the greater good of humanity. Umanitek will draw on its advisors for strategic guidance across the rapid, potentially reckless speed of development in AI deployment. Each advisor brings a unique perspective to umanitek:

    • Aza Raskin is a San Francisco-based mathematician and dark matter physicist who took three companies from founding to acquisition. Aza’s thought leadership in the AI space has him advising governments and large institutions, as well as being the co-chair of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on the Future of Al. Aza is also a co-founder of umanitek.

    • Bill Tai is a Silicon Valley-based venture capitalist and technologist with a track record of more than 20 IPOs. Originally trained as a computer chip designer, he is among the earliest backers of Zoom, Canva and machine learning company Treasure Data where he was founding Board Chairman. He has consistently spotted and supported transformative companies.

    • Joe Betts-LaCroix is a San Francisco-based serial inventor, entrepreneur and biotech pioneer, also known for creating the world’s smallest personal computer. A graduate from Harvard and MIT, trained at Caltech, and formerly a partner with Y-Combinator, Joe founded Retro.bio in 2020, in pursuit of extending healthy human lifespan by 10 years. Retro is backed by some of the world’s leading AI investors, including Sam Altman.

    • Magnus Grimeland is the founder and CEO of Antler, one of the world’s leading venture capital firms. Based in Singapore, Magnus graduated from Harvard University before joining McKinsey & Company. The co-founder of Zalora, later acquired by Global Fashion Group, Magnus went on to build Antler, today one of the most active early stage investment investors in technology/AI.

The umanitek team aims to deliver immediate, real-world impact. Umanitek will unveil their first AI product at the Knowledge Graph Conference hosted at Cornell Tech on Roosevelt Island, New York on May 6, 2025.

“Our advisory board brings us the difficult balance of ethics, capitalism and deep scientific thinking to umanitek. Together, we aim to rapidly deploy AI infrastructure that’s safe by design, open by principle and trustworthy by default. Guidance from these industry giants will prove invaluable over the next days, months and years.”

-Chris Rynning, umanitek Chairman

“We have a narrow window to design AI that reflects human values. Umanitek is doing the careful work of introducing infrastructure where trust, privacy and human dignity are the defaults, not an afterthought.”

-Aza Raskin, umanitek Co-Founder and Advisory Board Member

“AI is driving major advancements, but also brings significant risks, from IP infringement to illegal content. We must set guardrails to address these challenges to ensure a safer internet. Umanitek’s unique access to mountains of pre-existing data, provides an incredible competitive advantage in getting this mission right, and deploying quickly.”

-Bill Tai, umanitek Advisory Board Member

“Proactively establishing mechanisms for transparency and trust in online content will make sure that AI can fulfill its promise of increasing human potential. I resonate with umanitek’s approach of deploying existing technology for that because it’s fast, and so can keep up with the rapid pace of AI adoption.”

-Joe Betts-Lacroix, umanitek Advisory Board Member

“As a serial entrepreneur, I know how important it is to launch products rapidly, combined with setting the right incentive structure. In umanitek’s case, it is mission critical to align rapid AI deployment with sustainable human incentives and values.”

-Magnus Grimeland, umanitek Advisory Board Member
