Umanitek and LunarCrush partner to fight billions of fake accounts across social media

Two companies combining the world’s largest harmful content database with 50 million hourly social data points to combat industrialized impersonation.

Zug, Switzerland, 18 December 2025 – Umanitek and LunarCrush today announced a strategic partnership with a clear mission: protect 1 billion users from fake account attacks by combining institutional-grade harmful content detection with real-time social media intelligence.

The partnership comes at a critical moment. Impersonation scams surged 148% year-over-year between Q1 2024 and Q1 2025, according to the Identity Theft Research Center. Meta alone took action against 4.3 billion fake accounts in 2024, with nearly 2 billion more in just the first half of 2025.

The problem isn’t slowing down – it’s industrializing.

The partnership brings together two powerful capabilities. Umanitek builds tools that help individuals and organizations regain control over their data and digital identity through its decentralized knowledge graph infrastructure. LunarCrush processes 50 million public social media data points per hour across social media – delivering more real-time social intelligence than any other platform.

By integrating LunarCrush’s real-time social data into Umanitek’s Guardian Agent infrastructure, the partnership aims to protect 1 billion users from fake account attacks. Users gain visibility into where and how their identity is being misused across social platforms – giving them the information they need to take back control.

Beyond the technical collaboration, LunarCrush Founder and CEO Joe Vezzani is personally joining Umanitek’s mission as Head of Data Strategy – bringing his experience in social intelligence to support the broader effort to help people regain control over their digital identity.

Partnership in Action

When fake accounts appear using stolen profiles, deepfake media, or coordinated identity theft, LunarCrush’s data points feed directly into Guardian Agent’s decentralized infrastructure. The combined system identifies where and how someone’s identity is being misused across social platforms, providing users with timestamped evidence to take action before harm escalates.

This partnership lets us pursue an ambitious goal – protecting 1 billion users from fake account attacks – while staying true to our core principle: you shouldn’t have to surrender ownership of your biometric data or personal information to be protected,” said Chris Rynning, Umanitek Chairman. “By building on decentralized infrastructure, we can detect and track impersonation at massive scale without centralizing sensitive data. That’s how you build protection that scales without compromising privacy.”

“Umanitek is building exactly what the internet needs next: a way to prove what is real, protect people from impersonation, and do it without forcing users to hand over their most sensitive data. By combining Umanitek’s harmful content detection with LunarCrush’s real-time view of social behavior, we can surface identity abuse as it’s happening and give people clear, actionable evidence to stop it. At LunarCrush, we are excited to support this mission in a big way and help restore trust online at massive scale,” said Joe Vezzani, Co-Founder and CEO of LunarCrush

Taking Action

The partnership addresses a fundamental gap: while platforms focus on removing fake accounts after they cause damage, Guardian Agent helps users identify and respond to impersonation as it happens – giving them institutional-grade tools to protect themselves rather than waiting for platform moderation.
